  • Resources

All wood for Muoto™ products comes from sustainably managed forests, mainly PEFC and/or FSC® certified, and always from a known, legal origin.

Muoto™ aims to use 100% fossil-free raw and packaging materials by 2030 (current 2023: 99.3%).

  • Raw materials

The pulp from the Äänekoski bioproduct mill has fossil CO2-eq emissions per tonne, approx. 30% lower than the average European pulp mill. All chemicals and additives are assessed for suitability for food contact and compliance with the relevant regulations and recommendations.

  • Production

The Muoto™ demo plant operates using 100% fossil-free energy from renewable forests (scope 1 and scope 2).

Its production technology is highly resource-efficient, with process chemicals, water, and trim waste circulating within the system. The entire process, from wet pulp to the finished packed product, is seamlessly integrated into a single production line, eliminating the need for any additional converting steps.

  • Distribution

Our transportation is efficient and streamlined. Due to comprehensive product design, we can create lightweight products. These well-designed, fit-for-purpose packaging solutions help reduce environmental impact across the value chain by improving logistics efficiency.

  • Use

Muoto is made for purpose. Our products replace fossil-based alternatives in selective applications. and other fibre products i.e. bagasse from Asia, ensuring pure and safe products for food contact.

  • Recycling

Muoto products are easily recyclable in standard paper and paperboard waste streams, with a best-in-class recyclability score of 98. It’s important to consider the availability of local infrastructure for collecting and processing these materials. Additionally, Muoto products have been tested and proven to be biodegradable under industrial composting conditions according to ISO 14855.
