Collaboration across fibre materials plays a key role in developing innovative, high‑performance packaging solutions. At Interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, one of the world’s leading packaging events, Muoto™ and Metsä Board will jointly showcase at Metsä Board’s stand (Hall 8A / Stand D49) how close co‑creation brings moulded fibre and paperboard together into future‑ready, fibre‑based solutions for demanding foodservice and industrial packaging applications.
Advancing fibre packaging through collaboration
Muoto’s novel moulded fibre technology enables lightweight yet rigid packaging with design freedom for complex shapes. When required, it can be combined with barrier films, supporting applications such as meat, fish, poultry and ready meals. Combined with Metsä Board’s paperboard solutions– for example, through branded sleeves and shelf‑ready packaging – Muoto enables integrated fibre‑based packaging systems that balance performance, branding and recyclability.
“Muoto is designed to be developed together with partners. Showcasing Muoto together with Metsä Board highlights how different fibre‑based materials can work together to create scalable packaging solutions for demanding end uses,” says Antti Valtonen, VP, Muoto project. “Together, moulded fibre and paperboard extend the role of fibre into applications traditionally dominated by plastic.”
From piloting to future‑ready applications
The transition to recyclable, PPWR‑ready packaging is a shared challenge across the packaging industry. Muoto is currently in a demo and pre‑commercial phase, where close collaboration with partners plays a central role. Ongoing feedback supports the development of performance, manufacturability and end‑use fit, while helping identify new opportunities for fibre‑based food packaging solutions.
At Interpack 2026, visitors are invited to explore current Muoto concepts such as takeaway packaging, punnets and trays – and to discuss how joint development can accelerate the transition towards future‑ready fibre packaging.
