The award-winning Muoto Uncoated Fibre Series is expanding with a new line of moulded wood fibre punnets designed for fresh fruits, berries, and vegetables. The launch marks a significant step toward offering scalable alternatives to single-use plastic packaging.
The first formats of two punnet sizes are designed for fresh food packaging. Market testing is expected to begin in January 2026, targeting producers seeking plastic-free packaging solutions aligned with the EU’s forthcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

A growing market for recyclable fresh food packaging
According to a market study conducted by Muoto, billions of packaging units are used annually in Europe for fresh foods alone. Firm berries – such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries – account for a sizeable portion of that volume. Transitioning from current plastic packaging to fibre-based options, such Muoto punnets, could significantly cut the use of single-use plastics in retail.
The new Muoto punnets are manufactured from renewable fresh wood pulp and designed to be fully recyclable and biodegradable. The innovative production technology converts wet wood pulp directly into 3D shapes without intermediate steps, ready for delivery to the end customer. Muoto combines effortless moulding with a design that is lightweight, sturdy and strong.

Proven performance and industry recognition
Muoto packaging is already piloted in several applications, ranging from takeaway food service to industrial packing. The product line captured notable industry attention in September 2025 when the Muoto Twin Uncoated Fibre range won ScanStar Award, a Nordic competition highlighting innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. The same Muoto series subsequently won the Circular and Sustainable Packaging category at the Packnorth Award 2025.
